The MIAA Meet of Champions kicked off on Thursday at Merrimack College in North Andover and several local outdoor track and field athletes turned in notable performances.

Holyoke’s Yasani Thompson had the best finish of area athletes, taking third in the girls 200-meter final. Thompson crossed the finish line in 24.82 seconds.

Amherst’s Nico Lisle claimed a top-five finish as well, dashing to fourth place in the boys 800. Lisle finished in 1:54.95 as the Hurricanes’ only boys competitor during Day 1.

A pair of Northampton girls grabbed top-10 finishes in Ella Hoogendyk and Mairead O’Neil. Hoogendyk took fifth in the triple jump (37 feet, 8.5 inches) and eighth in the 400 hurdles (1:05.73), while O’Neil obtained seventh in the 2 mile (11:05.28).

Mahar’s Stellina Moore notched seventh place in the girls pole vault, recording a leap of 10 feet exactly.

Athol’s Nicolas Leblanc snagged eighth place in the boys discus with a toss that measured out to 162 feet, 32 inches.

South Hadley’s Matt Gillis rounded out the area finishers with a top-10 as the senior managed 10th in the boys triple jump at 45 feet, 0.5 inches.

Other area finishers included: Claire Fortin (Amherst), girls triple jump, 20th; Morgan Raffa (Mohawk Trail), girls discus, 23rd; Brooke Hockenberry (Hampshire), girls 800, 28th; Luke Howard (Frontier), boys 2 mile, 20th; Trevor Sullivan (South Hadley), boys 2 mile, 26th.

The Meet of Champions wraps up on Saturday with events beginning at 2:30 p.m.
